Romance was also in the air for Dan (John Bishop) as he nipped back to Liverpool (or was it?) for a coffee date with love interest Diane (Nadia Albina). You half-expected him to send a futuristic text message reading “Urgent exit required” before AC-12 burst in, wearing sci-fi waistcoats. This subplot came with a knowing wink for Line of Duty fans as Parkinson, best known as bent copper DI Matthew “Dot” Cottan, was exposed for corruption. We saw how Vinder had been banished to a far-flung posting after exposing crooked inter-planetary diplomat The Grand Serpent (Craig Parkinson). “Love is the only mission, idiot,” Bel told an emotionally illiterate Cyberman before shooting him – and revealing that she was carrying Vinder’s unborn child. The couple’s long-distance romance was a sweetly affecting one, aimed squarely at the Hunger Games/Twilight generations. This turned out to be space pilot Commander Vinder (charismatic Jacob Anderson, coming into his own). Proceedings opened with “Bel’s Story”, which saw the human survivor of an alien apocalypse (Thaddea Graham) roaming a dystopian planet, trying to dodge Daleks, Cybermen and clouds of Flux particles, in search of her lost lover. The Doctor had saved her companions’ lives by starting a temporal storm and hiding them inside their own memories, hence the supersized dose of déjà vu. Gradually it came into focus what was occurring. Writer Chris Chibnall constructed a woozy, trippy narrative redolent of his predecessor Steven Moffat’s era of “timey-wimey” playfulness. The effect was disorienting but don’t adjust your sets.

Viewers could be forgiven for thinking their TV signal was glitching, as the action jumped seemingly at random between different locations and timelines.
HALF LIFE 2 EPISODE 3 RELEASE DATE PC SERIES
It all made for another thrilling treat in a series which is proving a pleasant surprise.Īs six-part story Flux reached its midway mark, “time was running wild”. We had no idea there would also be Daleks and an extra Time Lord or two. We knew we were getting Cybermen in the latest episode of Doctor Who (BBC One), awkwardly titled Once, Upon Time. Well, they kept that secret successfully.
